Most Southwest Florida systems use a heat pump or an electric heat strip — not gas. Heat pumps reverse the refrigerant cycle to pull warmth from outside air, which works well down to about 40°F. Below that, electric heat strips kick in as backup. Either way, the equipment sits idle for ten months and is asked to perform on the coldest morning of the year.
That's why our fall tune-ups always include a heat-mode test. We run the system in heat, verify the strips energize in the right sequence, watch the amperage, and confirm the thermostat is staging properly. Catching a failed sequencer in October beats a no-heat call on January 4th.
